A Shih-Tzu is a wonderful companion (I have two Shih-Tzu dogs – brothers) and Niko was no exception. The dog was part of the family, and when he died his owner was inconsolable. This portrait of him, adapted from the only available photo of the Shih-Tzu, was kindly commissioned by a generous girlfriend as a very special surprise gift. Apparently she broke down in tears when she saw it. She is now very pleased to have this constant reminder of her dear departed friend Niko. She doesn’t yet have another dog – it’s hard to replace one who seemed irreplaceable. Perhaps another Shih-Tzu eventually? Who knows. For the moment the painting of Niko is there as a constant and happy memory.
