These green palms are part of a rather wild seascape you sometimes see in Antigua. And yet there is a suggestion of calm and peace. The pale yellow light on the horizon – the calm after the storm – is a beautiful contrast to the deep greens & blues. Palms are often associated with tropical climates, such as the Caribbean, although I believe the coconut palm originated in the Pacific Ocean.
Coconut palms are just one of many species found in Antigua and probably the best known. Unfortunately a disease has killed many off recently but hopefully enough have survived to continue the beautiful landscapes they comprise.
This painting in acrylic on wood has interesting textures due to the force of gravity on the paint as the wood is tipped. The colors are typical but the treatment of the subject is not and the result has abstract overtones.
